Aaron Hail Nelson, 66, passed away after a courageous battle with lung cancer and COPD on February 9, 2025, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. His departure has left a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Aaron was born on January 12, 1959, in Niles, MI, to Karen (Weaver) Nelson and the late James Nelson. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Damon Nelson, who remained in his heart throughout his life.
A proud graduate of Buchanan High School, Aaron went on to build a successful career as a valued member of the Sheet Metal Workers, Local #20, where he earned the respect of his peers and colleagues through his dedication and work ethic.
Aaron was a man of many passions and hobbies. He found great joy in the great outdoors, spending countless hours hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. His zest for life and adventure was infectious, and he shared his love for these activities with his family and friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 26 years, Laura (Honaker) Nelson, with whom he shared a deep and enduring bond. Aaron's love for his family was immeasurable, and he cherished his role as a father and grandfather. He is also survived by his mother, Karen (Weaver) Nelson, his sons, Shane Aaron (Michelle) Nelson and Brandon Scott (Valerie) Nelson, and his daughters, Brandy Love, Natasha Hammond, Lindsey Scott.
In addition, Aaron's legacy lives on through his beloved grandchildren Kevin Nelson, Triston Whitehead, Kade Nelson, Shantell Nelson, Alexis Love, Austin Love, Andrew (Kat) Love, Juan Galindo, Hailey Jastrzembski, Dyllan Kincaid, Jaylen Kincaid, Keaton Kincaid, Tyler Garab, Brenna Nelson, Brooke and Abby.
He is also survived by his brother, Kelvin Nelson of Niles, MI, and his sister, Jennifer Nelson of South Bend, as well his Aunt Sharon, with whom he shared a special bond. Aaron leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he cared for deeply.
A Celebration of Life for Aaron Nelson will be held on Thursday, February 20th, 2025, at Portage Road General Baptist Church, 1765 Portage Rd., Niles, MI 49120. It starts at 4:00 pm. There will be a short Memorial at 6:00 pm. If you want to share a memory you are welcome to. The Masons will have a prayer and say a few words. The celebration will end at 7pm.
Aaron's passing leaves a profound emptiness in the lives of those who loved him. His memory, however, will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to call him a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners, St Jude or Wounded Warriors charities.
