Obituary

Albert Eugene Carlson 87, of South Bend, IN passed away on July 8, 2021 in Mishawaka, IN. He was born to the late Walter and Laura (Murphy) Carlson on October 16, 1933 in South Bend.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954 -1956 . After his time in the service, he worked at Studebaker Automobile Company . His main employer was I&M (AEP) working as a meter reader until his retirement in 1995. In retirement, he worked for a while at the South Bend Tribune. He achieved his high school degree (GED) from John Adam's High School.

Dad enjoye d some hobbies. He bu ilt many model ships, with precision and care. His ho me was decorated with these ships. He enjoyed putting together Christmas villages. He would display them every Christmas. They were extensive. They would light up the living room and created a warm and festive environment for Christmas. Dad was the consummate handyman. He could fix almost anything, and he built many things.

Dad had a sense of humor. As he put it, he liked to give people "a hard time," in a fun and lovable way. He was a member of the Church of Christ on Laurel Street in Mishawaka. He was baptized and had faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Dad died in peace, saying he was ready to meet Jesus his Savior in Paradise.

He is survived by his late beloved wife Shirley A. Carlson, 71, to whom he was married nearly fifty years ; two sons John (Sue) Carlson and James (Katie) Carlson ; three grandsons Zachary Carlson, James (Jamie ) Carlson, and Nathanael Carlson ; three siblings, Arlene Carlson, Carol Schelbert, and Pam (Jim) Bierbaum , and his sister-in-law Shirley E. Carlson ; numerous nephews and nieces Mark Schelbert, Laura & Dave Pettifor, Christy (Mark) Rodgers, Heather (Kenneth) Edds , Ryan (Katie) Carlson, Carol Hamilton , and Chuck (Lori) Bierbaum ; and other beloved relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Walter Carlson J r ., Mary Alice Carlson, Mary Martha Carlson, and Richard Carlson.

Services for Albert will be held on Tuesday July 13, 2021 at 11AM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home 10776 McKinley Hwy Osceola, IN 46561. Friends may visit from 10AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Albert's memory to The Church of Christ 1022 Laurel St. Mishawaka, IN 46544. Chapel Hill is honored to care for the Carlson Family.
