Albert Eugene "Gene" Spencer, age 76, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014. Albert was born November 30, 1937 in Burlington Township, Michigan to the late Alvah and Nellie Spencer. Following graduation from North Branch High School, Albert enlisted in the US Navy and served honorably as an Aviation Electronic Technician until his honorable discharge in 1962. He and his wife Carol were married July 1, 1961 in Marlette, Michigan. Albert pursued his degree in Engineering from Michigan State University following his time in the Navy, and graduated with a Bachelor''s Degree in 1967. He had a long and prosperous career as an electrical engineer, retiring after 50 years of service to the community.
Surviving is his wife, Carol Spencer, and his sons, Tim (Robin) Spencer and Jeff (Erica) Spencer, all of Mishawaka. Albert is also survived by ten grandchildren; Amanda, Grace, Adam, Nathan, Gloria, Aaron, Gabriel, Ryan, Abigail and Megan, as well as his siblings, Arthur Spencer of Detroit, Michigan and Marie Perlberg of Marlette, Michigan. He was preceded in death in 1973 by his firstborn son, Daniel Eric Spencer, and his brother, Bill Spencer.
Visitation will be held from 3-7 pm Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. There will also be one hour of calling prior to the 2:30 pm funeral service on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Chapel Hill, and interment will be held privately in North Branch, Michigan.
Albert was a long time member of St. Mark Missionary Church in Mishawaka, and was involved with many of the church''s projects throughout his membership. He also loved to hunt, and was known to all as a hard worker, founding many entrepreneurial ventures over the years. Albert truly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially Sunday dinners after church, and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
