Alice Marie Baker, age 87, of South Bend, passed away Friday, December 2, 2011 at Morningside Nursing Home. Alice was born December 28, 1923 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Thomas and Mary (Lewis) Carey. On May 21, 1949, she married Mr. Roy E. Baker Sr. He preceded her in death, passing away in January of 2005. She was also preceded in death by her infant son, Albert J. Baker, her brother Thomas Carey and her sister Ruth Glasser.

Surviving are her sons, Roy E. (Marlene) Baker of South Bend, Indiana, Robert (Anita) Baker of Kempton, Indiana, and Jeffrey (Sheryl) Baker of South Bend. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Angela (Doug) Hoogeveen, Derrick (Chantelle) Baker, Monica Baker, Matthew Baker, Larry Gist, and Tracy Gist. Surviving as well are six great grandchildren; Mackenzie and Morgan Hoogeveen, Taylor and Derrick Baker Jr. and Matthew and Ethan Baker. Alice is also survived by her sister, Joan Marx.

Funeral services for Alice will be private. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Alice was employed for many years at G.L. Perry Variety Stores before her retirement in the mid 1980''s. She enjoyed sewing, trips to the casino with her family, and shopping with her daughters-in-law. Her friendly and outgoing nature will be missed by her family and friends.
