Alvena "Dabba" Byers, 85, of Mishawaka, passed away at 6:25 pm, Tuesday, November 22, 2011 in Hospice House of South Bend. Dabba was born on August 1, 1926 in Wakefield, NE, daughter of the late Gustav and Marcella M. (Steel) Vollstedt.
She is survived by her daughter, Melody (James) Jackson of Mishawaka, three grandchildren, Cynthia (Kevin) Kennelly, Melissa Craft and Darwin Jackson and four great grandchildren, Dale Craft, Tyler Craft, Sierra Kennelly and Alissa Kennelly.
Dabba was a member of Edwardsburg Community Baptist Church as well as the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Edwardsburg. She was a former member of the Elkhart Women of the Moose. She will be remembered for her love of crocheting, reading, dancing and watching ice skating and NASCAR.
Visitation will be held at 2:00 pm with a 3:00 pm Funeral Service in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
