IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anthony Francis
Lacava
April 28, 1935 – March 14, 2025
Anthony F. LaCava, age 89, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025. Born on April 28, 1935, in Hartford, Connecticut, to Louis and Carmella (Toce) LaCava, Anthony's life was marked by unwavering dedication to family, hard work, and a deep sense of pride in his service to both his country and his community.
As a young man, Anthony proudly served in the United States Navy, a chapter of his life that instilled in him a lifelong sense of discipline, patriotism, and duty to his country. After his time in the Navy, he married the love of his life, Kathleen (Miller) LaCava, on June 25, 1960. Their love story spanned 64 wonderful years, a testament to the enduring bond they shared. Together, they built a family that was rooted in love, respect, and a strong work ethic, values that Anthony held dear.
Anthony's professional life was equally distinguished. For 41 years, he was a dedicated employee of the Mishawaka School System. His work contributed to an astonishing total of 144 years of service by the LaCava family to the school district, a legacy that speaks to their commitment to education and the community. Anthony took great pride in his work, always maintaining an immaculate record and setting high standards for himself and those around him. He was known for being fastidious in everything he did, whether it was his job, his home, or the relationships he built. His attention to detail and his sense of responsibility earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and friends.
Outside of his professional life, Anthony was a man with many passions. He was an avid sports fan, particularly devoted to Notre Dame sports, and he loved to talk about the games, the athletes, and the moments that shaped his love for the sport. His passion for sports extended to his involvement in Little League baseball, where he coached including his son, Steven, fostering a love of the game in the next generation. Whether it was coaching, watching a game on TV, or attending a live event, Anthony was always engaged and passionate about the world of sports.
Anthony found great joy in exploring new places with his family. Some of his most cherished memories were made during trips to Turkey Run State Park, and after retirement, he travelled to Branson, Missouri, and Disney World. He treasured these adventures, and the stories he shared from these trips became a cherished part of his legacy. Anthony had a deep appreciation for the past, and he loved to tell stories of his life, recounting the experiences and moments that shaped him. His storytelling was a gift, and his family will forever remember the way he brought the past to life with his words.
In addition to his passion for sports and travel, Anthony was a man of great integrity. He was proud of his heritage and always remained true to his roots. He was a strong, dependable, and loyal person who was always there for his loved ones. He taught his children the importance of hard work, perseverance, and, most importantly, the value of family. His love for his wife, children, and grandchildren was evident in everything he did, and he took great joy in watching his family grow and thrive.
Anthony F. LaCava's passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of all who loved him. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, and his influence will be felt for generations to come. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever live on through the stories he told, the lessons he imparted, and the love he shared with all who knew him. May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy is one of unwavering love, dedication, and devotion.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Carmella LaCava, and his siblings, Carmen LaCava, Larry Marshall, and Rose Marie Dene. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched and the love he gave so freely.
