Arthur Eugene Ameling, age 83, of South Bend, passed away Friday, November 16, 2012 at Morningside Nursing Home. Arthur was born July 18, 1929 in South Bend to the late Martin T. & Elizabeth (Dudeck) Ameling Sr. In 1967, Arthur married Carol A. (Stewart). Ameling. They were married 43 years, prior to her passing in 2010.

Surviving are his children, Martin Theodore Ameling of South Bend, Stewart Charles (Barbara) Ameling of Paw Paw, Michigan, and Mary E. Ameling of South Bend. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, Madelyn & Jake Ameling. Arthur was preceded in death by his brothers Martin Ameling Jr., Richard Ameling and Fred Ameling.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm Monday, November 19, 2012 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, and interment and Military Honors will follow on the grounds of Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Arthur served in the US Army until his honorable discharge in 1957. He was employed for over 34 years in the garage with the US Postal Service before he retired. Long after retirement, Arthur was still involved with the people he worked with at the Post Office, attending many annual events and gatherings. In his younger years, he enjoyed being outdoors and fishing, and as time went on, he enjoyed relaxing and watching TV.
