August Dwain Elifritz, of South Bend, passed away peacefully at 2:35 P.M. on Monday, January 26, 2015 at the Golden Living Center, Fountainview. August was born in West Virginia on August 7, 1926 to Howard and Goldie (Williams) Elifritz. After proudly serving his country during WWII, August was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1946. Upon his return from service, he began working for the Bendix Corporation until his retirement in 1985. August had countless friends and enjoyed life. He loved to bowl and was a member of the Eagles Lodge for many years. August was the much-loved father of two daughters, Karen (Tom) Greenway of South Bend, Nancy (Bob) Heale of Toronto, Ontario, and four grandchildren; Jeremy, Emily, Samuel and Hannah who also reside in Ontario. He is also survived by Beverly Heckman, his loving partner of thirty-five years, and her family. August adored his dogs and, most recently, devoted himself to "Betsy." At his request, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be buried in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
