Aya Tulowetzke, 78, of Elkhart, passed away at 7:50 pm, Friday, July 9, 2010 in her home surrounded by family. Aya was born on February 15, 1932 in Kakura, Japan. When only two years old, Aya''s mother died and her father took his family from Japan to Formosa to raise. There they grew up and after the war had ended and her father''s death, she and her older brother and sister returned to Japan.
Following six years of schooling in the equivalent of our grade school and four years of high school, Aya took two years of specialized training in sewing. Later she worked for American families and while doing this work met Dale at a service club at Ashiya Air Base.
She married Dale H Tulowetzke by virtue of a civil ceremony that took place on August 26, 1958 in the American Consul Building at Fukuoka, Japan. Together they have daughter Dianna and her "favorite son-in-law" Rick Kuczmanski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 14, 2010 in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St., Elkhart. Cremation is to follow, with entombment of ashes to be held in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
