South Bend, IN- Barbara Jane Hensler passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 9, 2018 shortly after her 90 ^th birthday at Sanctuary at St. Paul's. She was born November 19, 1928 in South Bend, IN to the late George and Marguerite (Stokes) Bair and was a 1946 graduate from Riley High School. Barbara married Robert L. Hensler on November 2, 1951. She was an accomplished pianist and organist playing for several area churches. Barbara directed several area choruses including the FLI Chorus and Niles Garden City Barbershop Chorus as well as singing in small groups. She was very artistic and enjoyed a variety of crafts and handwork including, teddy bears and cloth dolls. Barbara was also talented artist working with her favorite watercolor and pastels. She was loved her flower garden. Barbara was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Granger, IN.  She attended and played organ for St. Andrews U.C.C. formerly in Mishawaka, IN. Barbara is survived by her daughters, Peggy Athens of South Bend, IN and Rebecca Greunke of Madison, WI; son Andrew (Debbie) Hensler of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Denny and Matthew Greunke of Wisconsin, Jason and Zoe Hensler of Ohio, and Nicholas Athens of South Bend, IN; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, JoAnn Hixenbaugh of California and Donnie Lambert of Wisconsin; brother, James Bair of Arizona; nieces; nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sons-in-law, George Athens and Dennis Greunke. Family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses, aids, therapists and staff at St. Paul's for their professional care and treating Barbara as family. A gathering for family and friends will be on Friday, December 14, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and funeral will follow at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy., Osceola, IN.
