Obituary

Barbara Jo True, 77, of Elkhart, passed away on August 19, 2022.  She was born on November 22, 1944 in Elkhart, IN to Thomas and Pauline G. (Flauding) Chester.  She married Phillip E. True on October 31, 1964.  He preceded her in death on May 15, 2022.

She is survived by her Daughter, Melissa (Wade) Hertsel; her grandchildren: Jess Galicia, Zachary (Katie) Hertsel, Nathaniel Hertsel, Aleah Jordan and Jessica Bouie; as well as a great-granddaughter, Willow.  Also surviving are the children of her heart, Sam (Fran) Bouie and Kathy (Mark) Wyatt.  A sister, Nancy Lewendowsky, is left to cherish her memory, as well as a beloved brother-in-law, Ted Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Laurali Smith; and her grandson, Pedro Galicia.

Barbara was the Attendance Secretary at Elkhart Central High School for 30 years, where she was a beloved mentor and second mom to all.  She was an accomplished artist and author.

Friends may visit with the family from 5-7 PM Friday August 26, 2022 at the funeral home and for 1 hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. A funeral service in her honor will be on Saturday August 27, 2022 at 11 AM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy Osceola.

Burial will immediately follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
