Basil W. Galipo, age 76 of Mishawaka, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Basil was born November 28, 1936 in East Liverpool, Ohio to the late Joseph and Anna (Brownfield) Galipo. Basil enlisted in the Army in 1959, and was honorably discharged in 1961. He married Helen Jackson on November 25, 1973. Helen preceded him in death, passing away in January of 2007.
Surviving is his daughter, Becky McCutcheon and her husband Wayne of Mishawaka, and his sister Susan Mondora of Ohio. Basil is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Joseph Ronconi, Katherine Ronconi, and Chad McCutcheon. Also surviving are 2 cousins with whom Basil was raised with and regarded as siblings, Steven Cutter and his wife Patricia of Wellsville, Ohio, and Maryann Burchette of Toledo, Ohio.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment and Military Honors to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Basil was employed for many years at Patrick Metals in Mishawaka. He enjoyed playing golf, watching Notre Dame Football, and traveling to Las Vegas with his wife Helen. He was also a longtime member of St. Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Basil''s "Yahtzee friends" and the St. Joe Visiting Nurses for their care and support in his time of need. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Bavo Catholic Church or the Meals on Wheels in St. Joseph County.
