Bernice A. Haas, 97, formerly of Elkhart, died peacefully October 26, 2014 on Bainbridge Island WA, surrounded by her family. The LaCrosse native was born January 1, 1917 to Richard & Anna Sonnenburg. She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1934, worked for Chicago Telephone (CTS) and on November 17, 1940 married John Haas. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John and her sisters, Alice & Adeline. Bernice found true joy in life as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; she was devoted to her church, which she faithfully served in many ways. In her early years she enjoyed sports; she also enjoyed baking, especially for her family & her church; she was well known for her sense of humor & her contagious laugh and she will be dearly missed. Bernice is survived by her son, Richard (Cheryl) Haas of Land O Lakes FL; daughter, Kathleen (Richard) Dernbach of Bainbridge Island WA; her grandchildren, John Dernbach, Jeff Dernbach, Richard Haas and Ashley Sorenson and her great-grandchildren, Laurel, Ben, Hayden, Keaton, Brandon, Alexis, Hannah, Blake and Zoe. Memorial Service 11:00 Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
