Obituary

Betty M. DeMetz, age 82, passed away at home on May 21, 2020 surrounded by her family.

Born June 11, 1937 in Elkhart, Indiana to George and Agnes (Peciniowski) Wade. She attended Jim Town High School. On August 6, 1955 she married John L. DeMetz at Calvary Methodist Church in Elkhart.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years John DeMetz of Elkhart, IN; Daughters Terri Hosterman of Jones, Michigan and Kelly King of Elkhart, IN; grandsons, Travis J. King, Kody A. Keltz and Colton Reeves; granddaughter, Jamie L. King; great grandsons, Trenton King, Karter Keltz and Oden Keltz; great granddaughter, Roxanne Brock; brother Denny (Cheryl) Wade of Elkhart, IN; sister, Linda (Fred) Isza of Elkhart, IN; Also special life-long friend, Sharon Neely.

She is preceded in death by her parents; an infant son in 1957; sons, Randall in 1981 and Michael in 2018; five brothers George, Bill, Dick, Ed and Herb Wade; four sisters, Helen Henderson, Mildred Horn, Mary Howe and Barbara Cooper.

Betty was a Home maker and worked part time at Penquin Point Restaurant, where she was often Employee of the Month. She received a Community Service Award for rescuing a 17 month old girl from a 10 foot deep man made Lake although she could not swim. Betty and John traveled to Hawaii, Jamaica, Cozumel, Cancun, Tijuana and many more, including a cruise to the West Indies, often taking their grandchildren.

She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, wife and grandmother and loved by all who knew her. The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice, especially Mark and Kelli, for the excellent care of Betty. When you remember Betty, the family asks you remember her sense of humor and kindness and pass it on.
