Betty L. Koontz, 85, of South Bend, died Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Valley View Health & Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart. The Benton Harbor native was born August 29, 1928 to Arthur L. and Anna E. (Steffey) Jones. Betty was a homemaker, member of the American Legion Post #50, Ladies'' Auxiliary and attended Cedar Road Missionary Church. She had enjoyed music & dancing, camping & fishing, and most recently enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and the outdoors, watching the birds & squirrels. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Koontz in 1999 and son, Randall Koontz in 2013 as well as 3 brothers & 3 sisters. She is survived by her son, William A. (Peggy) Koontz of Osceola; daughters, Phyllis J. "P.J." (Michael) Powell of Osceola and Mariellen J. (John) Graf of South Bend; grandchildren, Jason (Kristin) Koontz of Mishawaka, Holly (Jon) Colburn of Mishawaka, Gregory Powell of Osceola, Trisha Powell of Osceola, Joe Graf of South Bend, Danielle Graf of Bloomington, Felicia Graf of South Bend and 7 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services 10:00 Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway. Friends may call Wednesday 4-8pm in the funeral home. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family''s preferred memorials are Cedar Road Missionary Church or Harbor Light Hospice.
