Betty M. Montague, 85, of Elkhart died Saturday March 23, 2013. The South Bend native was born June 9, 1927 to Asa James and Martha (Daughtery) McCartney. Betty retired after having worked in retail for a number of years. She was a member of the Baugo Twp. Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and was very community minded. Betty volunteered her time with numerous organizations; always willing to help whenever asked. She served as a volunteer teacher with the Aux Chandelles School for disabled children as well as serving as a sponsor/host family for several foreign exchange students over the years. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Montague and her brothers, James and Harold McCartney. She is survived by her son, Wayne Montague of Elkhart; sister, Mildred (William) Roe of Mishawaka and several nieces & nephews. Funeral Services 11:00 Saturday March 30, 2013 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. with calling one hour prior to services. Calling also Friday 6-8pm at the funeral home. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family''s preferred memorial is Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 18th Street NW, Washington, DC 20005.
