Obituary

SOUTH BEND –Betty L. Nickerson, 92, was called home to be with her Lord on Monday January 29, 2018. Betty was born in June 24, 1925 in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Robert and Ruby (Sult) McKee. On March 1, 1947, Betty was wed to Fred L. Nickerson in South Bend. Together they celebrated 52 years of marriage before his passing on September 5, 1999.  Ms. Nickerson was very family oriented. She loved the Lord most of all and enjoyed sharing her love for Him with everyone. Her family recounts fond memories of singing gospel hymns with her, enjoying Christian music, and playing games. She liked to play Skip-Bo, do word searches, to read, and to look through photographs.  Betty was a great cook. She made wholesome meals and the tastiest treats, like her pineapple cheesecake. She even spent time canning produce from her own garden, local orchards and fields. In her later years, Betty attended Harvest Bible Chapel in Granger.

Betty is survived by her sons, Gary Nickerson of South Bend, F. Scott Nickerson of Atlanta, GA, and Jeffrey (Judy) Nickerson, also of South Bend; daughter, Sue Zimmerman of Granger; grandchildren, Andrea (Jordan) Mills-Saiz, Cassie Mills, Austin Mills, Emily (Nathan) Sagon, Maggie Nickerson, Rachel Nickerson, and Lydia Nickerson; brother, James (Mary) McKee of Springfield, MO; sisters, Roberta Marshman of South Bend and Beverly Beske of Arkansas, and brother-in-law, Ron Voit. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Sharon Voit.

In accordance with Betty's wishes, Chapel Hill Funeral Home will be conducting a private funeral service with interment following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
