Betty L. O''Brien, loving wife, mother and grandmother, went home to her mansion on the hilltop on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the Hospice House of Elkhart County following an extended illness. Betty was 72 years of age. Betty was born March 12, 1937 in Ward, West Virginia to the late George and Mabel (Garten) Craigo. On July 3, 1986, Betty married Daniel R. O''Brien in Elkhart, Indiana.
Dan survives, along with her daughter, Betty Kipker of Elkhart, a brother, Larry (Lana) Craigo of Pineville, Louisiana, and two sisters, Bobbie Cremeans and Marguerite Keenan, both of Cedar Grove, West Virginia. Also surviving are her step-children, Daniel O''Brien Jr. of Texas, Steve, O''Brien, Chris O''Brien, of Arizona, Andrew O''Brien, of Elkhart, Tamara O''Brien of Michigan, and Cynthia Kauffman of Arizona, along with eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery Mack and her sister, Elizabeth Bender.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am-12:00 pm Sunday, February 14, 2010 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Pastor J.L. Wyant will conduct funeral services at 12:00 pm Sunday, February 14, 2010 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, and interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Betty was employed by Taylor Products of Elkhart until her retirement in 1986. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening, working crossword puzzles, and playing the piano. She was also fond of watching the birds in her backyard. Betty was a member of the Bible Way Apostolic Church in Nappanee, Indiana. In her memory, donations may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care or the United Cancer Services of Elkhart.
