Elizabeth "Betty" Weinkauf, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011 in Milton Home in South Bend. Betty was born on April 26, 1919 in Mishawaka, the daughter of Gertrude and Otto Kelley. As Betty Kelley, she married Kenneth Weinkauf while they were both employed at Associates Investment Company. The were married on June 9, 1946 in Mishawaka. Kenneth passed away on January 9, 1997.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Beverly Weinkauf of San Francisco, CA and Joann (Anthony) Germano of South Bend. Betty was also a loving grandmother to her only grandchild, Nicole Elizabeth Germano of San Francisco, CA.
Betty was the last to survive of two sisters, Geraldine (Allen) Sams of Flossmoor, IL, who died in June 2008, and Juanita (George) Long of Mishawaka. The three sisters, sang as a trio called the "Kelley Girls". She also survives her brother, Richard Kelley, who died in Florida in 1986.
Betty was active in the Mishawaka Methodist Church as Treasurer of one of the Women''s Groups. She was also a member of the PEO. She and Ken later became members of the Coalbush United Methodist Church.
She was an extremely talented seamstress, sewing beautiful, creative clothing for herself and her daughters. She also graciously sewed for friends'' weddings and home dcor. Betty loved her flower gardens, planting them three different times we moved as a family. She studied the art of Victorian flower drying, making intricate arrangements which she would sell or give to friends. Betty created a loving home, where we all knew we''d find kindness, love and home made cookies or her famous velvet cake.
Funeral services for Betty will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, August 15, 2011 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
The family prefers memorial contributions be sent to Southern Care Hospice, 310 W. McKinley Ave, #340, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
