IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bonnie Joyce
Scott
October 27, 1925 – December 9, 2021
Beloved mother Bonnie Joyce (Keiser) Scott, age 96, of Elkhart, passed away on December 9, 2021 surrounded by family. Bonnie was born on October 27, 1925 in Wellsboro, Indiana to Frank and Erma Keiser and grew up in Knox, Indiana.
Her family maintained a small household in Stark County and struggled through the Great Depression. In the midst of these trying times she lost her sister Lucille to scarlet fever in 1931. The family then unexpectedly lost their father and primary provider in 1940. Despite these challenges, the family supported themselves and Bonnie proudly graduated from Knox High School with the class of 1944. Following high school, Bonnie moved to Winamac where she worked in a variety of occupations including as a telephone operator, at a clothing factory, and in the business office of Beatty Memorial Hospital. For three years during the Korean War, she worked beside her mother Erma at the Kingsbury Ordinance Plant assembling detonators for 80 mm shells in support of the war effort. She obtained her cosmetology license from Wedekind Beauty School in Logansport, Indiana in 1954.
She met her future husband and soulmate, Russell Scott, in August of 1954 and became engaged in October of that same year, marrying in January of 1955. They raised their family in Knox, LaPorte, and Michigan City before moving to Elkhart, where Russell took a position with Miles Laboratories. After her children were grown and starting families of their own she became a volunteer at the Breast Center at Elkhart General Hospital, where she donated her time and love for over 16 years.
Preceding her in death was her husband Russell Scott, who passed away on February 10, 1995, her sisters Lucille Keiser and Twyla White, brother Royce Keiser, and her parents Frank and Erma Alcorn.
She is survived by her son Douglas (Deborah) Scott of Ottawa, Kansas and two daughters, Janet (James) Froelich of Goshen, Indiana and Lori (Joseph) Shanholt of Brownsburg, Indiana;
Five grandchildren, Robert (Betsy) Froelich of Elkhart, Indiana, Brian (Rebecca) Scott of Topeka, Kansas, Heather (Matthew) McDowell of Louisburg, Kansas, Matthew Shanholt of Elkhart, Indiana, and Nicki Shanholt of Brownsburg, Indiana; one great granddaughter, Haylie Johnson (Froelich); four great grandsons, Lukas Froelich, Mason McDowell, Landon McDowell, and Brayden Smith; and one great great granddaughter, Lacey Johnson.
