Booker Bevins, Jr, 61, of Bristol, IN, died at 11:05am, March 1, 2012, at his residence.
Booker was born April 18, 1950, in Pikeville, Kentucky, to Booker Sr. and Flora (Justice) Bevins. On March 16, 1974, Booker married Sandra Nemeth in Middlebury, IN.
Sandra remained his sweetheart throughout their marriage of 37 years. She survives along with a daughter, Rhonda (Craig) Cheney of Bristol, IN; a granddaughter, Alexandra Cheney (15 days old), three sisters, Mary (Jesse) Justice of Shatsbury, TN; Margie (Roger) Stump and Debbie (Billy) Ramey both of Phyllis, KY, and many nieces and nephews. Booker was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Donna Sue. Also preceding him in death was his beloved friend, Pastor John Bair, whose wife, children, and grandchildren Booker considered extended family.
Booker attended Bethel Tabernacle of Niles, Michigan, where he was a faithful member and usher for many years. He was baptized in Jesus'' name and received the Holy Ghost in 1974.
Booker retired from City Roofing. He was a member of the roofing and sheet metal trade unions.
Booker enjoyed salvaging and restoring discarded items, usually giving them to someone in need. He loved to help others.
Friends and family may call from 4-8pm Saturday, March 3, at Bethel Tabernacle, 71378 Ironwood Dr, Niles, MI 49120 where the services will be held at 4pm Sunday, March 4, with visitation 2 hours prior. Rev. Matthew J Bair will officiate. Private burial will be at Chapel Hill Cemetery Monday, March 4.
