Bruce lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to his country. Born on April 23, 1948 in Denver, CO to Imogene (LeMasters) and was then adopted by William "Bill" Shumway, he moved as a one-year old to Indiana where he built his life. Bruce shared 39 years with his devoted wife, Billie Jo (Vance) Shumway creating a bond complete with love, friendship and unwavering support. Together, they had a relationship filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished moments that will forever hold a special place in their hearts. Bruce found solace in the simple joys of life, spending countless hours sitting around ampfires in Coldwater, MI engaged in conversations with the many friends he made over the years and casting his line into the tranquil water while fishing or getting ice cream at their favorite place. His love for engaging conversations knew no bounds, and he could often be found sharing stories and laughter with friends and family. Bruce spent his life dedicated to two professions that defined him: operating engineer and over the road truck driver. Whether he was behind the wheel of a massive rig or maneuvering heavy machinery, Bruce could liven up the day with his gift of gab, stories, anecdotes and quick wit. His love of conversation knew no end, and he cherished every opportunity to connect with others and share his experiences. Music was a constant companion, and he found great joy strumming his guitar to soulful ballads and upbeat tunes. Bruce found excitement in the vibrant lights and bustling atmosphere of Las Vegas casinos and risking a small bet on his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. His enthusiasm for games of chance and lively evenings out added an extra sparkle to his life, leaving him with countless tales of unforgettable experiences. In service to his country, Bruce bravely served in the Army with Dustoff 236, 44th Medical Brigade during the Vietnam War, demonstrating unwavering courage and selflessness in the face of adversity. His dedication to his fellow soldiers and to the ideals of freedom and justice will always be remembered with gratitude and respect. For his heroism and bravery during his service, he received Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster with "V" device.
