C. Elsie McCaslin-Turner, age 88, of Niles, Michigan, formerly of Osceola, Indiana, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at 7:25 a.m. Elsie was born December 21, 1920 in Elkville, Illinois to the union of the late Marion and Daisy (Carnahan) Bean. On July 2, 1938, she became the bride of the late William A. McCaslin and in 1952, they made Indiana their home. On June 29, 2002 she married Robert Turner Sr. of Gulf Port, Florida who preceded her in death. Elsie was also preceded in death by five brothers; Odel, Ora Kenneth, Tom, Audie and Gene Bean, one sister Ruby Foster; a son Kim McCaslin three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Elsie is survived by six children; Janet McCaslin of Mishawaka, Daisy (Brian) Bright of Niles, Michigan, William (Betsy) McCaslin of Elkhart, Sharon (Jerry) Hill of Mishawaka, Michael (Carol) McCaslin of Roseland, and Ronald (Marilyn) McCaslin of Bedford, Indiana. Surviving as well are two step-children, Robert (Karen) Turner Jr. of Florida and Shirley (Gene) Joyner of South Bend. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren, 93 great grandchildren, and 42 great-great grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, James Bean of Warsaw, and two sisters, Pearl Stokes of Lakeville, and Bonnie Spillers of Royalton, Illinois.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, Indiana. Rev. J. Mark Muncy will officiate the 1:00 p.m. funeral service on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Elsie was never one to sit idle. She loved traveling and visited Israel twice. She worked for her son at Fiber-Tron Corporation into her early 80''s and was an active member of the PLA''s at the Whosoever Will Worship Center in Elkhart before moving to Niles. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was affectionately known by all as "Grandma."
