Carl Gregory "Greg" Smalley, 78, of Elkhart, IN passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021 in Elkhart, after complications following surgery for a fractured neck, after a fall due to Parkinson's disease.   He was born to the late Earl and Winifred (Swick) Smalley on September 22, 1942 in Plymouth, IN.  He married Joan (Manges) Smalley, she survives.

Greg is survived by his loving wife, Joan; 4 children, Gregory, Jennifer, Tracy and Susanne.

In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Smalley of Kokomo, IN.

Greg led a colorful life and played as hard as he worked.  Work included a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise (3 Elkhart stores) for 25 years.  He had a business called "Greg's Energy Saver's" in 1978, where he sold wood burning stoves, log-splitters, etc. during the energy crunch.  He also had a small shop refurnishing furniture, mostly antiques for customers. These traits lead to a woodworking shop, making and repairing furniture, along with other things.  This led him to open a retail furniture store for several years.  He worked for a boat trailer manufacturing where he drive a flatbed truck and delivered the trailers from the east coast to the Dakotas and sometimes beyond.  He rarely complained and loved meeting and visiting with all people no matter how rich or poor as well as keeping up with friends by phone.  He was always happiest when working on his 1928 Model A Ford.  He was a member of the Elkhart Noon Optimist Club for about 25 years and the Hoosier "A" Ford Club for more then 25 years.  His hobbies included swimming, boating, riding motorcycles and antique Model A cars.

Services for Greg will be Monday, September 20, 2021 at 1:30 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home 10776 McKinley Hwy Osceola, IN 46561.  Friends may visit from 11:30AM until time of service. In honor of Greg's life, he wanted everyone to wear their favorite bright color. Chapel Hill is honored to care for the Smalley Family.
