Carlisle "Ky" Ervin, 91, of Elkhart died Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Hospice House of Elkhart. He was born in Wakarusa on December 27, 1919 to Mable Swarm and Ralph Ervin. Carlisle grew up on his grandparent''s farm in Wakarusa. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the Pacific during WWII. On December 21, 1941 he married Elnora Eugenie Emerson in Elkhart. She preceded him in death on January 4, 2000 after 59 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Sally Jo Edwards; his son, Theodore Ervin; one grandson and five great-grandchildren. Carlisle worked for the railroad, the Sterling Street and Elkhart Foundries, and the Elkhart Community School System from which he retired. His grandchildren always knew to go to Grandpa''s if anything needed to be fixed or repaired. Surviving are his daughters, Mary Ann (Thomas) Surface and Peggy Wentland, both of Elkhart; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren and his caregivers, Tammy and Jerry Fausnaugh. Funeral Services 12:00 Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10-12 at the funeral home. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
