Carol Ann Decker, 71, of Mishawaka, passed away Friday, December 14, 2012 in Las Vegas, NV. Carol was born on June 7, 1941 in Mishawaka, the daughter of Herbert L. and Frances (Nunnally) Garman.
Carol worked at Elco Thermoplastics in Mishawaka until they closed in 2000. She started as a press operator and finished her career there as Purchasing Manager. After Thermo closed, Carol served in Human Resources at Amerisource-Bergen in Mishawaka. Carol was quite a personality! She made life-long friends at both Thermoplastics and Amerisource.
Carol loved her children and grandchildren. She was well-known as "Grandma Carol," and her grandsons learned many things from her like: how to be a true Notre Dame fan, how to sing the fight song (by age 3), how to frost Christmas cookies, and how to throw tinsel on the Christmas tree one strand at a time, no clumps. Nobody could crack their chewing gum like Carol! She was also the CEO of the Decker Tailgate at all ND home games. She loved setting up, being the boss, and trips to Taco Bell after the game. We will all miss her special touchdown dances and the way she'd yell at anyone who stood in front of the TV during the game.
Carol was blessed with many good friends, neighbors, and a loving family. She treasured her winters in Las Vegas and her grand-dogs, Megan and Deni. She attended concerts, sporting events, and school programs for her grandsons, and you could see her beaming with pride a mile away. Carol will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her mother, Frances Garman of Mishawaka, two children, Gary J. (Tressa) Decker of Granger and Rhonda S. Decker of Las Vegas, NV; two grandchildren, Brennan and Brady Decker. She is also survived by two brothers, Herbert C. (Jan) Garman of Tucson, AZ and John C. Garman of Mishawaka.
Visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00 pm, Friday, December 21, 2012 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 am, Saturday, December 22, 2012 in the funeral home with military honors.
