Carol Ann Thompson, 78, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away on August 31, 2026.

Carol was born on July 12, 1948, to Victor and Viola Seidl. She grew up in Huntingburg, Indiana, as one of six children, alongside her siblings Sandy, Rick, Tom, Bob, and Larry. She attended Indiana State University before eventually making her home in Elkhart, where she lived for over 50 years.

For decades, Carol worked as a substitute teacher, becoming a familiar face in local classrooms and touching the lives of generations of students and educators. Her many years in education reflected a life spent as part of the community she called home.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Thompson; her parents, Victor and Viola Seidl; her sister, Sandy Kaiser; and her brother, Rick Seidl.

She is survived by her sons, Marc Thompson and his wife, Tracy, and Mike Thompson and his wife, Rebecca; her grandchildren, Ben and Emily; and her brothers, Tom, Bob, and Larry Seidl.

Carol’s life stretched from her childhood in Huntingburg to the home and family she built in Elkhart. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, educator, and a presence in the lives of countless people over the course of her 78 years. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

A private service of committal will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Garden 2 "B" where she will be laid to rest beside her loving husband, Steven Thompson.
