Obituary

Carolyn Martin passed away on Friday, December 11, 2009 in her home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Carolyn was born November 27, 1924 to Delfin and Lucille Maes in Serene, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Hank Maes and David Maes, a sister Viola Montoya, and a grandson, Robby Martin.
Carole is survived by her husband, Robert Martin, son Robert Martin, Jr. (Cathy) of South Bend, daughter, Linda Giemza (Glenn) of Oak Creek, WI, grandson, Chase Martin of Granger, granddaughters, Tracee Casey (John), and Carrie Casey, great grandchildren, Tyler, Zachary, Gabrielle, and Olivia all of Green Bay, WI. Also surviving are sisters, Olivia Lara (Ernie) of Campbell, CA, Millie Romeo of Lodi, CA, Della Berlenghi (Phil) of Lincoln, CA, Sally Galvan (Bill) of Morrison, CO, Eurbie Munley (Dick) of San Jose, CA, Pat Morales (Tony) of San Jose, CA and a brother, Ted Maes of San Jose, CA.
On February 24, 1946, Carolyn married Robert D. Martin in Denver, CO. Bob was a career Air Force officer and pilot, taking the couple to Air Force bases in South Carolina, Texas, Hawaii, and New York. Carole enjoyed volunteering her time, playing golf, bowling, and bridge during their years in service. After Bob''s retirement from the Air Force in 1961, Carole and Bob returned to Bob''s hometown of South Bend, where Carole became active in the community, volunteering at Memorial and St. Joseph Hospitals. In 1979, alongside her husband, Carole helped found CBM Accounts Service, where she worked until her retirement in 1990.
Carole was an avid golfer, playing in many leagues at Erskine and Elbel Golf Courses. Carole enjoyed bowling in the Ladies League and Mixed League at the South Bend Elks Club and Turners. Carole was a member of the Bridge Center for many years and also more recently played duplicate bridge at the Battell Center. Carole enthusiastically served on many committees, always willing to donate her time. Carole was a devoted wife and best friend to her husband of 64 years, a wonderful mother and grandmother. Carole was always willing to make a friend and be a friend.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 15, 2009 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am.
