Charles S. Cooperrider, 75, of Elkhart passed away at 10:55 pm, Saturday, November 12, 2011 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Charles was born on August 8, 1936, the only son of Sheldon A. and Mabel (Emig) Cooperrider. Charles attended Osceola Grade School before attending Mishawaka High School and graduating from Riley High School in 1954. In September of 1954, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he proudly served his country as a Jet Mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1958 obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
On April 18, 1958, he married Emma Irene Colvin and they had three children, Shellie (Todd) Cooperrider of Elkhart, Julie (Ronald) Brunkel of Mishawaka and Charles Cooperrider, II of Lakeville. He is also survived by grandson, Adam Shaw.
Charles worked for W.A.R. Equipment Co. for many years. In 1962, he opened Twin City Brake and Alignment, which he owned and operated for 20 years. He also opened Tire Systems and had a part in Acra Tire and still worked with CIC Management.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm, Tuesday, November 16, 2011 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 17, 2011 in the funeral home with Rev. Michael Cramer officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
