Cheryl Kay Funkhouser, age 62, of South Bend, Indiana passed away Monday, September 21, 2009 at Hospice House in South Bend, of natural causes. Cheryl was born December 14, 1946 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Paul and Geneva (Tabler) Funkhouser. Cheryl was a graduate of Penn High School, class of 1965. She was employed for over 20 years at Elixir Industries in Elkhart, and most recently as a greeter at Wal-Mart in Osceola.
Surviving is her mother, Geneva Funkhouser of South Bend, and three sisters, Paula (Roger) Kline of South Bend, Kathy (Alva) Bontrager of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Deborah S. Ganshorn of Elkhart, Indiana. Cheryl is also survived by 3 nephews and 1 niece. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul and her niece, Penni Renee Kline.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Pastor Denver Burns of the Michiana Community Church of God will officiate the 2:30 pm funeral service at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on Friday, September 25, 2009. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Cheryl was a member of the Michiana Community Church of God, where she was very involved and active in Church activities. She served as the Church treasurer for many years. She enjoyed traveling with her niece and nephews, watching movies, and collecting eagles in her spare time.
