Clarence V. Black

SOUTH BEND - Clarence V. Black, 85, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully Friday, August 18, 2017 at St. Joseph Medical Center. Clarence was born in South Bend on Thursday, February 4, 1932 to the late Cader and Minnie (Gloser) Black.
Clarence served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class. He successfully completed Tank Company courses and served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Clarence worked at Goshen Tree Service, South Bend Range, and Ruben Auto Parts. He liked to stay busy. He was always tinkering with small engines and working in the yard. Recently, Clarence became attached to his neighbor''s pet donkey and horse. He named them and helped feed them.
Clarence is survived by his brothers, Robert Black of Sparks, NV and Donald (Vicki) Black of South Bend, and a sister, Mary Tapp, also of South Bend. Though Clarence didn''t have any children of his own, he had numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly and enjoyed spending time with. In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by his sisters, June Johnson, Ruth Bradley, Joyce Young, and Jean Dunn, and brothers, Virgil and Edward Black.
Clarence''s family is grateful to the staff of St. Joseph Hospital ICU for their loving care and support. They would also like to express their appreciation to his neighbors and buddies, Justin and Julie, for looking in on him and being there for him when needed.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 12:00 pm- 4:00 pm at the Lydick Lions Club located at 26205 W. Edison Rd., South Bend, IN 46628.
