Obituary

Daniel L. Kilgas, 65, of South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully at 4:40pm on August 2, 2012 at Hospice House, Roseland, IN. He was born on November 14, 1946 in Racine, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. and Florence V. Kilgas. He married Terry Beth Kinney on May 7, 1995 in South Bend.

Dan is survived by his wife, Terry Beth; and three sisters, Martha (Alan) Emmert, Kathleen Fashbaugh, Wanda (Jeffrey) Gordon, all of Mishawaka, IN, two stepsons, Jon and Jeff Kinney of South Bend, IN. Special nephews, Russell (Kathy) Larson , David (Wynne) Trowbridge, Marcus (Chrissy) Quimby, and special nieces, Heather Gordon, Camiel (Nathan) Gibson, Deborah (Jon) Hensley and special great nieces and nephews Kiersten, Dylan and Austin Quimby and Blake and Lauryn Trowbridge and numerous nieces and nephews. Special sister in-law Patti Jo Quimby and Russell Brown, brother in-laws, Richard (Butch) (Delisa) Quimby, John Quimby and Charles Quimby Jr. Also, his dog companions, Amanda and Travis who stayed by his side with love and affection.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerome Larson, stepson, Joel Christopher Kinney and in-laws Charles and Anita Quimby.
Dan proudly served the United States Air Forces with a twenty-two year career. He retired in January 31, 1987 with the rank of Tech Sergeant. Among the places that he was stationed at were: Texas, California, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, England and finishing his career at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah.
He attended Mishawaka High School where he played football. He was a fan of MHS football and wrestling. Dan moved back to the South Bend area and retired from Steel Warehouse in 2008.

He was happiest when he was fishing. He grew up with annual trips to Canada fishing for Northern Pike, Walleye and whatever else was biting. He enjoyed trout fishing when he was living in Utah. He fished for salmon in the Pacific Ocean. Dan would experiment with cooking the fish that he caught in many different ways. He was an avid supporter of Notre Dame Football no matter where he was stationed.

Visitation will be held from 2:00-6:00 pm, Sunday, August 5, 2012 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm, Monday, August 6, 2012, in the funeral home with one hour of visitation prior. Rev. Don Francis will officiating. Entombment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola with military rites.
