Darlene R. Teeter, age 83, of Mishawaka, passed away at her apartment in Center Street High Rise on Wed. May 1, 2013. Darlene was born July 6, 1929 to the late C. Guy and Marie Dunn in Wright Twp. Michigan. On June 28, 1947, she married Harold Gene Teeter in Mishawaka. He preceded her in death, passing away in July of 1999.
Surviving are her children, Harold Gene (Kim) Teeter of Mt. Prospect, IL, Oscar Teeter of Osceola, Betsy (Bill) McCaslin of Elkhart, Marie (Joe) Cervenka of Naperville, IL, and Diane Teeter of Encinitas, CA. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Darlene is survived as well by her sisters Laree Abbey, Ellen Bacon, and Connie Walker. Her sisters Carolyn Bolander and Joan Schultz preceded her in death.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm Wed. May 8, 2013 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Friends and family may gather one half hour prior to the ceremony at Chapel Hill Funeral Home.
Darlene''s first job was as a carhop at Bonnie Doon''s Ice Cream Shop in Mishawaka, where she worked on roller skates for the original owners. She also volunteered as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army, and sang with a ladies group at many of the local nursing homes. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her friends and neighbors at the Center Street High Rise. She would crochet blankets, and bake banana bread for all of her friends. She also loved to read, and in her younger years, volunteered to cook for over 200 young campers at Church Camp.
