Darwin E. Enders, 81, of South Bend, died Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. The South Bend native was born October 16, 1935 to James and Fern (Herstine) Enders, who have both preceded him in death. On June 14, 1986 Darwin married Kathy, who survives. Darwin was passionate about his membership with the Hesston Steam Museum and being a leader for the Boy Scouts of America from 1958 to present day. He loved antiques and old things, fishing, and traveling. Darwin was one of the truck drivers that gave the little crippled boy a ride that was the focus of the Red Sovine song "Teddy Bear". He will be remembered as a person who was very involved and active, determined to not give up, and somewhat gruff but would give you the shirt off of his back. Darwin was a great role model to his family, and never met a stranger. Darwin is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kathy; his children Diana (Mark) Ehresman, Suzan (Steven) Cherrone, Lisa (Rodney) Bogue, Edward Lynn, Sandra (Richard Clark) Barbera, David Foreman, and Darwin E. (Rebecca Shaw) Enders, Jr.; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Norma (Jimmy) Eggers. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Michael Barbera; grandson, John Foreman; and a brother, James Enders, Jr. Friends and family will be received on Sunday, December 4, 2016 from 4-8PM at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. A funeral service in Darwin''s honor will be held on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 10 AM at the funeral home with calling one hour prior to the service. Deacon Dave Enders will be officiating and burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family''s preferred memorial is to Hesston Steam Museum, 1201 East CR 1000N, LaPorte, IN 46350.
