Obituary

David W. Kennedy, Jr., 69, of Niles, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026.

Born on March 16, 1957, in South Bend, Indiana, David was the son of David W. Kennedy, Sr. and Ruth Marguerite (Jones) Kennedy. He spent most of his life in the Niles area, where he built lasting friendships, raised a family, and became known for his dedication to his work, his country, and those he loved.

David attended Brandywine Elementary School, Brandywine Middle School, and graduated from Brandywine High School. The community remained close to his heart throughout his life, and he was proud of his roots in the area he called home.

A proud patriot, David served honorably in the United States Navy from June 30, 1978, until January 29, 1981. During his military service, he was stationed aboard the USS Ainsworth, faithfully serving his country and carrying with him the values of duty, loyalty, and perseverance that would remain with him throughout his life.

Following his military service, David began a long and successful career with Bendix, later Honeywell, where he worked diligently for many years before retiring. He was respected by his coworkers for his strong work ethic, dependability, and commitment to doing every job to the best of his ability.

Above all else, David treasured his family. For 38 years, he shared a loving marriage with his wife, Marsha Kennedy (Weimer). Together they built a life filled with memories, challenges overcome side by side, and a bond strengthened through decades of devotion and companionship.

David will be remembered for his quiet strength, his dedication to family, his years of service to his country, and the steady presence he provided to those he loved. His life was one marked by hard work, commitment, and enduring love. While his passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, his memory will continue to live on through the stories shared, the lessons he taught, and the lives he touched.

David experienced the profound joy of fatherhood and the immeasurable heartbreak of loss. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, John Paul Kennedy, as well as his parents, David W. Kennedy, Sr. and Ruth Marguerite Kennedy. Though their absence was deeply felt, David carried their memories with him always.

Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife, Marsha Kennedy; his niece, Amy Overmyer; his nephew, Adam Overmyer; and four great-nieces and great-nephews. He will also be remembered by extended family members, friends, former coworkers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Highland Cemetery, 2257 Portage Avenue, South Bend, Indiana 46616, where David will be laid to rest beside his beloved son.
