Floyd "Dean" Shaffer, age 87, of Osceola, Indiana and formerly of Montrose, Colorado, passed away Friday, August 5, 2011 at Hospice House of Elkhart County. Dean was born March 21, 1924 in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late George and Mabel (Lambert) Shaffer. His wife of 33 years, Carole Shaffer, preceded him in death, passing away in 1989; his love for her continued until his dying day.
Dean was preceded in death by 6 brothers, and 1 sister, and is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Cremation will take place, and scattering services will be held privately at a later date. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Dean worked as a miner for many years in Colorado and as a Forest Ranger in Missouri before his retirement. He enjoyed walking and hiking daily, until his health would not allow him to do so anymore. He was also a devoted member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah''s Witnesses in Montrose, Colorado. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
