Obituary

Dona Jean Rhoades, age 74, of Osceola, passed away Monday, May 18, 2009 at her son''s residence of natural causes. Dona was born January 6, 1935 in Plymouth, Indiana to the late Roy and Blanche (Kimble) Markley. On December 1, 1951, Dona married Mr. Robert Rhoades. Robert preceded her in death, passing away October 21, 2001.
Surviving is her son, Michael Rhoades and his wife Teresa of Osceola and their daughters, Chelsea and Lindsey Rhoades, and her son Clifford Rhoades and his wife Kelly of Tulsa, Oklahoma and their children Caleb, Kassandra, Alicia, Joshua and Christian Rhoades. Also surviving is her sister Bette Warner of Mishawaka, and half-sisters Leslie Markley and Debbie Eppert, both of Plymouth, Indiana. Dona was preceded in death by her brother George Markley, and her sisters, Helen Casteel, Dorothy Youngman, and Kitsy Weldy.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola. Funeral Services will be conducted by Pastor Dave Stauffer of the New Life Baptist Church at 11:00 am Friday, May 22, 2009 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Dona was employed by the Holiday Inn in Niles Michigan as a waitress for many years until she retired to care for her granddaughters. Dona enjoyed traveling with her husband during his Military career, and lived abroad as an Army wife for ten years. Dona also served as a volunteer at Regency Place where she ran the gift shop for many years.
In her spare time, Dona enjoyed playing BINGO and was a member of the Retired Enlisted Association National Auxiliary. She was also a member of the New Life Baptist Church in Osceola for many years. In her memory, contributions may be given to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Drive, South Bend, Indiana 46637.
