Obituary

Donald Eugene Dawson, 83, of Granger, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Don was born on September 25, 1928 in South Bend, the son of the late Joseph F. and Nelva I. (Good) Dawson. On April 24, 1948, he married Georgia L. Cogswell. She passed away on August 2, 1995.
Don worked for Dodge Manufacturing for over 40 years before his retirement. He loved anything that had to do with speed, and raced stocked cars at one time. He used to raise pigeons and belonged to the Pigeon Club that was run out of Porky''s Tavern in Mishawaka. He loved to watch NASCAR, golf and bowl, and was a member of Club 15. He spent most of his time at his beloved lake cottage on Christie Lake in Decatur, MI and leaves behind his Christie Lake family.
Don is survived by two daughters, Vickie (Vic) Kil of Granger and Kathie (Randy) Osborne of Mishawaka, six grandchildren, Michael Morel of Holly Springs, GA, Matthew (Briana) Morel of Granger, Sheli Wieczorek of Mishawaka, Jason (Grace) Roose of Mishawaka, Kevin (Carol) Roose of South Bend, Kristi Osborne of Tampa, FL, and Tara (Joe) Gilbert of Mishawaka. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren, Conner Wieczorek, Hannah Morel, Bailey Morel, Payton Roose, Emma Morel, Logan Gilbert, and Amzy Roose, as well as sister, Delores Beard of Driftwood, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Phyllis Smith and brother, James.
Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 pm, Sunday, February 19, 2012 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, February 20, 2012 in the funeral home with Rev. Bob Vale officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
