Obituary

Donald Raymond LaPlace, age 82 of Mishawaka, passed away at his home on Thursday, January 24, 2013. Don was born August 15, 1930 in Tyner, Indiana to the late John and Julia (Hayden) LaPlace. Don graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1948, and enlisted in the US Army, where he served in the MASH unit during the Korean War era. He was honorably discharged in 1951. On May 23, 1953, Don married the former Barbara Harmer in South Bend.

Barbara survives, along with their daughters Donna (William) Miller of Mishawaka, and Patty (Tony) Ullmer of Elkhart. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren; Jamie Jackmovich, Jason Jackmovich and Neal Miller, and a great grandson, Kody Jackmovich. Surviving as well are his siblings, Mary Bock, of Angola, Indiana, Oscar (Brenda) LaPlace of Mishawaka, Dale (Della) LaPlace, Gale (Janet) LaPlace, both of Michigan, his sister-in-law Joyce LaPlace of Elkhart and several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his grandson, Derek Miller, and his siblings Kenneth LaPlace, John LaPlace, and Doris LaPlace.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 7pm Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Don was an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing twice a week. He also enjoyed bowling, and at the age of 53, bowled his first 300 game. Don also enjoyed fishing with his great-grandson. He attended Willow Creek United Methodist Church in Mishawaka, where he served as a Trustee and volunteered his time as a handyman. He also enjoyed volunteering his time with family and friends in need.
