Obituary

Donald A. Hardy, 79, of Mishawaka, died Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Hospice House in South Bend. The Mishawaka native was born March 7, 1935 to Dwight A. and Jessie (Miller) Hardy, who have both preceded him in death. Don served in the US Navy Reserves from 1951-1953 and was a 1953 Mishawaka High School graduate. He served in the Occupation Army in Germany from 1953-1955 and in 1954, he married his wife Shirley, who preceded him in death after 58 years of marriage. Don received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bethel College in 1961; his Masters from Ball State University in 1966 and retired as a High School Teacher, Reading Director and Division Leader for Penn-Harris-Madison Schools. Don was a member of Pi Beta Alpha, the Ball State Alumni Association and served as past president of Normain Athletic, member & past president of Osceola Lions Club, member & past president of Osceola Community Players; he served one term as president of the Penn-Harris-Madison School Board and was also past president of the Board of Directors of MCP Restaurants, Inc. Don enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening and was an avid fan of Penn High School Football and Notre Dame Football. In addition to his parents and his wife Shirley, Don was also preceded in death by his daughter, Kerri Sue Barnes. He is survived by his son, Scott Hardy of Vandalia MI; grandchildren, Timberlee (Andrew) Bartley of Goshen, Tana Jessie Hardy of Fort Wayne, Coleman Hardy of Cassopolis MI, Lora (Lloyd) Luce of Fort Bragg NC and four great-grandchildren; his sister, Marilyn (Dale) Dutoi of Bremen and Edward D. (Judy) Hardy of Mishawaka. Funeral Services with military honors 11:00 Thursday December 11, 2014 in St. Paul''s Episcopal Church, 616 Lincolnway East, Mishawaka IN 46544, where friends may call from 9:30-11:00. A luncheon reception follows the services. Private burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements through Chapel Hill Funeral Home.
