The family moved to Elkhart, IN where she grew up and graduated from Elkhart High School Class of '54.

With a little encouragement from matchmaking mothers, Donna went on a date with a handsome sailor when he was home on leave. They fell in love and on Sept. 11, 1955, she married Harry L. Evans Jr. (Sonny) the love of her life.

Donna was a devoted wife and mother to her 3 children. In typical midwest style there wasn't an occasion that Donna didn't celebrate, or a situation that she couldn't fix, with a hug and a delicious home cooked meal.

Donna retired from Ameritrust Bank in 1991. She was an Asst. Vice President and Manager at the Parkmor Plaza Branch. After retirement she became active with the Elkhart County Heart Association and earned the award of "Volunteer of the Year". She was a longtime member of Delta Theta Chi Sorority and established lasting friendships with her sisters.

Donna is survived by her sons, Douglas (Teresa) Evans, Jeffery (Rita) Evans, her daughter Beth (John) Nicholson, a sister Betty (Glendon) Tudor, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry L. Evans Jr., a grand-daughter April Beckwith, brothers - Leland, William and Robert and a sister Margaret.

Donna and her husband Sonny loved to entertain friends and family. She especially loved Christmastime. Every room in her home had its own Christmas tree and every weekend a christmas party to host, for sorority sisters, friends from work, or former classmates, she enjoyed decking the halls. Mrs. Claus took holiday pointers from Donna Evans.

It just seems fitting that Donna will be joining her husband Sonny in heaven this holiday. She will truly be home for Christmas this year.

A celebration of life will be planned at a later date when family and friends can safely attend.
