IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donna N
Miller
September 7, 1927 – May 23, 2025
Donna N. Miller, age 97, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, in Cassopolis, Michigan. Born on September 7, 1927, in Georgetown, Indiana, she was the daughter of John H. Nethercutt and Ruth Helen (Sterrett) Nethercutt. Donna lived a full, vibrant, and loving life marked by deep devotion to her family, a passion for nature, and a joyful spirit that touched everyone she met.
On February 1, 1946, Donna married her soulmate, Don, and together they shared a life full of adventure, love, and laughter until his passing in 2005. Their bond was one that inspired everyone who knew them—a partnership built on love, humor, and a shared appreciation for life's simple pleasures. Whether camping on the beaches of Holland, Michigan, working side by side in their garden, or traveling across the country together, they embraced every moment with joy and purpose.
Donna had a deep love for the outdoors and found great happiness in gardening. Her flowerbeds were always in full bloom, a reflection of the light and warmth she brought into the lives of others. She also enjoyed crocheting and sewing, creating beautiful handmade items that are still cherished by her family today. An animal lover at heart, she raised chow dogs for many years, treating each one as part of the family.
A strong and spirited woman, Donna was known for her competitive streak—especially when it came to playing cards. She loved a good game and wasn't above bending the rules to win, always with a playful grin that made it impossible to be mad at her. Her sense of humor was infectious, and her laughter could light up any room.
The holidays were Donna's favorite time of year. She treasured gathering with her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, making every occasion special with her warmth, stories, and endless generosity. She had a unique gift for bringing people together and making them feel at home. Family meant everything to her, and she never missed a chance to create memories or share in the joys—and even the challenges—of those she loved.
Donna was the kind of person you could turn to with any problem. She would sit with you, talk it through, and find a way forward, no matter how long it took. She was deeply empathetic and gave her time freely, always offering comfort and support with grace and patience. She taught us that no matter how busy life gets, there is always time to care for the people around you.
Even in her later years, Donna remained curious, adventurous, and full of life. Whether it was mushroom hunting in the woods, vacationing in Florida or the Smoky Mountains, or laughing late into the night with her great-nieces and nephews, she never lost her sense of wonder and joy. She had a spirit that couldn't be dimmed and a heart that never stopped giving.
Donna, thank you for being our anchor, our laughter, our comfort, and our light. Tell Robert and Eugene we say hi. We love you beyond words—and we'll see you again someday.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband; her parents; her brothers, Robert Lee Nethercutt and Eugene Nethercutt; her niece, Lisa Nethercutt; her nephew, Bruce Nethercutt; and her great-nephew, Matt Poehlman.
Donna leaves behind a family that loved her deeply and will continue to honor her legacy: her nieces and nephew—Sandy (Greg) Poehlman, Cindy (Ted) Jackowiak, and Wayne (Julie) Nethercutt; Niece-in-law Deb Nethercutt wife of the late Bruce Nethercutt; her great-nieces and nephews—John Klimek, Karie Crosby, Kelli Cinniger, Hannah Jackowiak, Ted R. Jackowiak, Brad Nethercutt, Kelsey Nethercutt, Sydney Nethercutt, Jenna Nethercutt, Renee Nethercutt, Brendon Dubberly, and Kurt Poehlman; along with numerous great-great-nieces and nephews who were lucky enough to feel her love and warmth.
A visitation to celebrate Donna's life will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy., Osceola, IN, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with burial immediately afterward at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
