Dorothy Pauline "Dodie" Akin, age 90 of Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Osceola, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 after an extended illness. Dodie was born October 25, 1923 in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Robert Hurshel and Hazel Elizabeth (Enders) Purple. She was preceded in death by her husbands Ray Fulmer, and Duane Akin as well as her son in law, Dave Slaven.
Surviving members of the family include her sister, Ruby Dipert of Mishawaka, her children; Sandra Miller (Bill) of Tarvares, FL, Dr. Christina Fulmer of Nairobi, Kenya, Debra Slaven of Bradenton, FL, Lisa Switalski (Michael) of Mishawaka, IN and Robert Robaska of Arizona, along with a step-son, Kim (Kitty) Fulmer of Osceola. Surviving as well are several grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 2:00 pm funeral service on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola, Indiana. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Dodie was a homemaker who truly enjoyed being a wife and mother to her family. She loved to cook and travel, and was a devoted Christian, who loved her Pastor and Church. She was a long time member of Twin City Baptist Church, Mishawaka, where she and her husband Duane served as greeters on Sunday mornings for many years.
