IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy V.
Gangwer
October 31, 1930 – February 20, 2023
Dorothy Virginia Gangwer, 92, died peacefully on Monday February 20, 2023 at Greencroft Healthcare. Dorothy was born October 31, 1930 in Millersburg, IN to Howard and Delilah (Christner) Sark. On April 20, 1951 she married Donald Gene Gangwer, Donald passed in 1990. Together they had five children: Delores Greenawalt, Goshen; Donna (Ed) Mapes, Elkhart; Diane Gangwer, Goshen; Dewayne Gangwer, Goshen and Devon Gangwer, Goshen. Dorothy is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson, in addition to her brother, Dana Dwight Sark of Sarasota, FL. Dorothy was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Fred Greenawalt; brother and sister-in-law Dean and Barbara Sark; sister-in-law Betty Sark, her parents, a niece and a nephew.
Dorothy enjoyed her grandchildren very much and was always happy to spend time with her family. Dorothy was a homemaker for most of her life. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and created many beautiful afghans in addition to slippers, hats, puppets and dishcloths. She made ornaments for the grandchildren for Christmas for many years. After Dorothy's husband became legally blind, they became a part of the local American Council for the Blind in Indiana, where Dorothy served as a secretary for many years. After Donald's death, Dorothy became a part of the Tuesday Ladies, many of whom were vision impaired. Dorothy enjoyed finding new ideas for these crafts. She also enjoyed reading and served in the library at East Goshen Mennonite Church for a few years. Through the years she also acquired a nice library of her own.
As a member of East Goshen Mennonite Church, Dorothy was active in teaching Sunday School and Bible School when her children were young. In later years, she enjoyed greeting others at church and exchanging books with other members who also enjoyed reading. Memorials may be made to the East Goshen Mennonite Church (EGMC) library or Mennonite Central Committee. Services are entrusted to Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, IN. Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday March 3, 2023 at the church with visitation from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm.
