Obituary

Dorothy June Gindelberger, age 101, of Mishawaka, passed away at her residence on Friday, October 22, 2010. Dorothy was born in Kewanna, Indiana on June 17th, 1909 to the late Guy and Ethel (Hall) Smith. On February 14th, 1942, Dorothy married Francis Wayne Gindelberger in South Bend, Indiana. Wayne preceded her in death, passing away in May of 1990.
Surviving are her children, Dr. Donald W. (Joan) Gindelberger of Mishawaka, Edward B. (Eleanor) Gindelberger of Ohio, and Thomas (Stephanie) Cripe, of Elkhart, Indiana. Dorothy is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her son, Clifton I. Cripe Jr. and her daughter, Beverly J. Cripe, as well as her three brothers; Donald, Cloyd, and Richard R. Smith.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 pm Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Rev. Bob Vale of the Osceola United Methodist Church will officiate the 3:00 pm funeral service at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, and entombment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Dorothy was employed for many years as a billing clerk with I&M Electric. She then became a homemaker, a job she truly loved. She enjoyed sewing, planting and caring for plants and flowers with her "green thumb," reading, and spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren. She was the eldest member of the Osceola United Methodist Church in Osceola for over 50 years. Through the Church, Dorothy belonged to the Women''s Society, and the Mother''s Singers, where she and other ladies from the Church would travel and sing in the area.
In her memory, the families preferred memorial is the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, or the Osceola United Methodist Church.
