Dorothy M.
Grenert
January 3, 1929 – May 9, 2025
Dorothy M Grenert 96 years young, passed away Friday May 9th, 2025 at Wellbrooke of South Bend.
Dorothy was born in South Bend, In. to Charles and Lovina (Phillips)Singleton on January 3, 1929.
Dorothy married the love of her life George F. Grenert, Sr. on August 30th, 1947. At Little Flower Parish.
From their love they had 4 children.
George F. Grenert, Jr.(Patricia),and Cheryl Grenert Bradford of Mishawaka and Frances Leedy and Charles Grenert(Judith) of South Bend.
From all the love of our family that needed to be shared came
12 beautiful grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren
Dorothy loved being active with any Activity with her children and grands
If she could watch their sports she was there, school concerts or plays she was there as much as she could.
Dorothy loved getting her hair done once a week and hearing good gossip, actually up to her last breath. She loved spending time working in her gardens, Bingo, scratch off tickets and crocheting blankets as gifts. Her favorite place was in the kitchen, cooking soups or foods she would disguise so we would eat it. She loved hosting holiday dinners, but her favorite was Christmas. She would start baking various types of cookies right after cooking Thanksgiving dinner.
Bake & freeze. She was famous for her Buckeyes & Kiflies. She would count them before putting in containers to freeze. BEWARE if you ever got into those containers she knew, you weren't outsmarting her, she knew and would tell us someone was In them.
She was a lifetime member of the ladies auxiliary. Active member of VFW 1167 until they closed.
Employed at the University of Notre Dame for 38 years as housekeeper with the Student Health Center for those 38 years.
She received the Presidential Award from Father Malloy in 1990
Certificates of Recognition in 1993, 1995, 1996 and 1997.
Mom & Dad weren't frequent travelers, but they enjoyed trips to Niagara Falls and to Pennsylvania to visit Aunt Ruth and Aunt Clara.
She traveled by car & plane to see grandchildren in Nevada, South Dakota & Texas.
We never figured out why a person terrified of riding an elevator would want the window seat of an airplane!
Dorothy was one of 15 children. Living siblings are Ronald and Jack Singleton of South Bend and Walter Singleton of Argos.
Deceased siblings Rose Grenert, Shirley Brown, Deloris Helfman,Ruby Jones, Alice Cox and Clara Riggs, Edward, Lester, Charles, Kenneth and William Singleton.
A surplus of nieces & nephews that she loved and always looked forward to seeing them.
The family would like to offer our thanks and appreciation for everyone who has been with us during this very difficult time.
