Mishawaka, Indiana, - Douglas A. "Doug" Healy, loving
husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on May 17, 2023,
at the age of 62, due to natural causes. He
will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born on August 16, 1960, in Elkhart, Indiana, Doug was the son
of Lawrence and Catherine Healy.
Doug dedicated 30 years of his career to the University of Notre
Dame, where he most recently served as the Program Director of Maintenance at
the University Enterprises and Events Department. His professionalism,
dedication, and kindness made a lasting impact on the university and his
colleagues. He always had a smile for everyone, and he enjoyed passing on his
extensive knowledge to his colleagues.
Devoted to his family, Doug was married to Becky (Casper) Healy
for 40 years, building a home filled with love, laughter, and music.
Doug's memory will forever be adored by his children, Alec
(Kayla), Brooke (Andrew), and Courtney (Colin). In addition to his children,
Doug is survived by his brothers, Dave (Galena), and Rich (Gayle), and his
sister, Jeanine. He is also survived by his beloved Aunt Marian and his
extended Healy family. He is also survived by his Casper family which includes
his brothers-in-law Dave (Sandy) and John, and sisters-in-law Julie (Mike) and
Cindy. He also had a host of cherished nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in
death by his parents, Lawrence and Catherine, and his brother, Steve.
Outside of his professional
and family life, Doug had a passion for riding bikes and found joy in music, which served as a constant soundtrack to his life.
He enjoyed challenging his brain, and he was everyone's personal handyman and
enjoyed projects around the house. He loved a good schematic! He cultivated a
love of the outdoors with his family, which included many camping and canoeing
trips on the Pine River in Michigan and visits to Colorado to hike and explore.
He maintained a zest for traveling to new places. Over the years he pursued
many hobbies including home brewing, fitness, and gardening. He was always a
fierce competitor at family game nights. He had a love of animals that extended
to his many grand-pets and his recently rescued dog Josie, who was his cuddle
buddy.
