Douglas Randall Vance, age 57, of South Bend, passed away September 21, 2012 at the Hospice House of South Bend. Doug was born March 7, 1955 to Alva R. and Betty R. (Woodard)Vance in Mishawaka, Indiana. Doug was self employed as a carpenter and drywall hanger, and also worked for several years at Patriot Homes. He enjoyed working with his hands, building homes, and working in his yard. Doug was also excellent with auto body repair, and could take apart, fix and reassemble just about anything he was given to repair. In his younger years, he enjoyed visiting the American Legion in South Bend. His independent spirit and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his mother, Betty Vance of Osceola, his daughter, Crystal (Fred) Williams and his son, Justin (Tricia) Vance, both of South Bend, and 6 grandchildren; Derek Williams, Zachary Brubaker, Jaden Vance, Alyssa Williams, Jaylin Vance, and Jacelin Vance. Doug is also survived by his siblings, Barbara Anderson, Beverly (Tiny) Fillmore, Dennis Vance, Cynde (Gary) McKinney, Jeff (Darlean) Vance and Karen Ahearn. He also has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, & aunts. Doug was preceded in death by his father Alva and nephew Greg Boren.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 1:00pm funeral service on Wednesday, September 26, 2012. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, Indiana.
