ELKHART-Earl Smith 54 passed away at South Bend Memorial Hospital Thursday afternoon after a brief illness. Earl was born to Ralph and Shirley (Surface) Smith. Earl lived all of his life in the Michiana area. He graduated from Concord High School with the class of 1979 and then went on to obtain a degree in Electronics from Ivy Tech in 1998. He was also currently attending Ivy Tech for computer information technology to further his education. Earl was working at MSC Supply doing PTL support. Earl loved sports; some of his favorite teams were the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. He went to many games supporting his favorite teams. Earl's greatest love of all was his children and grandchildren; he would spend much of his time traveling to watch the grandchildren play baseball and soccer so he could cheer them on like a proud grandpa. Earl was also a softball coach for many years for the little leagues for which his own children played, this gave him much enjoyment. Earl is survived by his parents, Ralph and Shirley(Surface) Smith, three children, son, Vincent(Kellie)Smith, daughters, Nicole(Jared) Horras and Kassandra(Kevin) Proffitt, three brothers, Charles(Kathy)Smith, Dennis(Fran)Smith, Keith(Jan)Smith and ten grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Ralph Smith Jr. Friends and family may gather Monday, March 21, 2016 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at the funeral home at 10:00 am with a one hour prior visitation. Pastor Bob Vale will officiate. Burial will follow immediately at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed towards the family.
