Edward Nelson Doty, Sr., 88, of Granger, passed away in his home on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at 6:35 am surrounded by family. Ed was born on March 19, 1925, the son of the late George W. and Freida M. (Petersen) Doty, Sr. On June 29, 1946, he married Loretta Rodgers. She passed away on December 19, 1961. Ed is survived by three children, Linda (Terry) Sulich of Mishawaka, Edward (Nancy) Doty, Jr. of Goshen and Deborah (Pete) Rupchock of Granger; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Charles (Joyce) Doty of Mishawaka and three sisters, Maxine Payne of LaPorte, Jane Judd of Granger and Dixie Anderson of Mishawaka. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Evelyn Blicharz and Nancy Campbell and three brothers, George, Jr., William, and Floyd Doty. Ed served in the US Army, Battery A, 125th AAA Gunnery Battalion (MBL) from June 1943 thru February 1946. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 360. He loved working with wood and building birdhouses and feeders. He was a small town farmer who loved his animals. He enjoyed riding his golf cart "buggy" around with Josie (his dog) by his side and sitting by his pond. His most recent enjoyment was visiting with family and friends on his "Party Porch". Ed was an avid Notre Dame.Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm, Friday, August 9, 2013 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 10, 2013 in the funeral home with one hour of visitation prior.
